Graffiti removal and graffiti are ubiquitous in many communities, not just urban areas. Private residences manage graffiti on their own, as seen in the above photo on the far right and bottom right. Once those changes in color are highlighted as individual works of paint, as opposed to meshing back into a singular facade, other inconsistencies that are not graffiti removal begin to have the same qualities as “potential art”. Speaking strictly to the surface of the house, the fault line crack patches (fairly common in California) lead toward the two graffiti removal spots.
As I continue looking at graffiti removal as a serious subject, ideas of home upkeep or residential architecture become more important. Understanding intent, or mostly lack of intent, in art and design is a hallmark of contemporary living. It’s become very clear to me I need to understand more about architecture and sociology before I keep making these kinds of statements.
